I think the trickiest thing for me is remembering that when women defend patriarchy and male dominant behaviour, it’s not their fault and all they’re doing is shooting themselves in the foot for a pat on the head. Feminism isn’t bad. Feminaziism is. Smash patriarchy, rape culture and all that B.S. The problem is that a lot of the latter still think they’re part of the former.

No, the real problem with feminism is that a lot of the latter has a lot more power than a lot of the former. But even that is beside the point. Feminism itself starts from the assertion that “the patriarchy” was made by men to benefit men at the expense of women. Starting from that assertion can lead to nowhere but a bad destination. You have to realize that the patriarchy as feminists define it, and as i defined it above, IS NOT REAL. Rape culture does exist, but its a subculture and its mostly directed at men. Most people find rape against either gender abhorrent and rightfully so because it is a violation of bodily autonomy, but there are too many people who laugh at men who are raped and WAY FEWER who do so at women who are raped. Rape culture is a bigger problem against men than women. Now, what does exist and perpetuates gendered problems that we face is something called gender roles. Gender roles are the real culprit here and both men and women are affected equally but in different ways. Feminists fail to see this and fail to address it. The patriarchy (not as feminists define it) is real but it is set up and maintained by both men and women and it serves to keep all of us slaves to our genders. Men arent the only ones to blame for the way things are.

Hm, excellent points! I definitely realize that radfems drastically exaggerate patriarchy in its every aspect. Hmmmm, yes, great point about rape culture being aimed at men! I never thought of it that way!

I, personally, prefer to adhere to gender roles, and would prefer a wife that will too. I’d like to be the breadwinner with a loving wife to take care of the home, with shared responsibilities when it comes to the children. But I’m equally fine with other people adhering to their own decided role. I believe women were biologically equipped for a submissive role, but I also acknowledge that they are free and capable of breaking that role. I don’t think gender roles in essence are the issue, more taking a back seat as the origin of it. The vast majority of people in ‘free’ countries (‘Murica) believe women should be free to decide their own lives, so long as they don’t directly ruin those of others.

Again, the main issues are biological. Women usually don’t rise to positions of power in major corporations because they are (admittedly) more likely to produce children- and subsequently leave- than men are. The fear is baseless, however, as I covered with the previous point.

The main difference now between feminists and radfems is that the former fights actual threats to women’s welfare, while the latter goes on tumblr to put together a posse of them, their friends and their male radfem friends who really just want to get laid, and protest issues that are either nonexistent, trivial, exaggerated, or already drastically in their favor (like, as you brilliantly explained, rape culture.)

tl;dr: You’re 100% right about the rape culture thing. The issue is the fact that women are crippled due to their biological family role, one which they have the power and choice to ignore. Feminists protest these issues, while radfems just annoy people over something stupid.

I think you misunderstood my point.

I understand that IF things were different, they would play out similarly, but they were not; I’m simply basing my opinion off the recorded history of genocide, war, imperialism, and the like. Men took power, and its shown in various aspects of life (politically, socially through media, economically). So I’m confused as to were this logical fallacy comes from, but I’m interested in hearing more about this.

Ahhh, now when you phrase it like that, it makes much more sense! What you’re saying is that men seized power and then misused it, right? I can understand that. The way you phrased it, I got the impression you were just blaming men for something only they were capable of.

I think what they might have meant by that was that they should not get so drunk, so that they can give or not give consent. A lot of women call it rape if they give consent while too drunk to realize it.

This is very out of context I’m sorry. I wrote that intending to post it on Facebook to my friends in Hong Kong (which I will) but I thought it would be make an interesting post on Tumblr. So let me explain the context a bit:

Our security minister just commented yesterday that with reference to growing number of rape, we should note that most of the time it happens when the woman was too drunk to resist, and therefore women consider not drinking so much. My critique draws from that disciplinary aspect.

Your point about consent is very important and it was not a point that was raised by the minister or by anyone in fact in this controversy in Hong Kong. Given his intention was to try to restrict what women should do, I will not give him the free pass that I would have if he was trying to, like you said, draw attention to the importance of giving consent.

In that regard I agree that drunk people can’t give consent to sex at all. I’ve done slightly embarrassing things and made a fool of myself too drunk, and getting wasted should be a fun experience when you’re surrounded by trustworthy people that cares about you and respect you. It’s a shame that rapists ruin everything for everyone.

I’m not going to say that men have more rights’ issues than women do, but just because a couple rare cases happened to be men doesn’t mean anything. At all. In fact, if women had been let into the positions these tyrants had held, one of them might have done the same. Good thing only men had the opportunity to do those things, otherwise we might have had twice as many genocides and totalitarian regimes!

Your argument is just about as flawed as it can get. Well, not really, actually, but it’s a textbook example of logical fallacy. Going by your logic, you could say:

Hitler was white, so no white people should complain about rights!
Stalin was an atheist, so atheism is evil!
Bin Laden was from the middle east, so we need to wipe out everyone in those countries!
99% of rapists are men, so all men should be considered rapists!

May 6, 2013 - A Michigan woman whose alleged trail of lies led to the release of a man convicted of raping her was charged Monday with fraud after investigators said she tricked an insurance company and sympathetic supporters into believing she had cancer.

It was Sara Ylen’s second criminal case in just a few days. The 38-year-old Lexington resident also is charged with filing a false report of rape in September.

Besides those cases, Ylen was involved in the prosecution of James Grissom, who was convicted of raping her in a parking lot, despite no physical evidence. A judge threw out the conviction after authorities learned she had made up sexual-assault allegations in California, information that wasn’t available to the defense at the 2003 trial.

Grissom, now 55, was released from prison in November after nearly 10 years.

“She’s getting what she deserves,” Grissom said when told about the new charges.

He said he still can’t find a job or a permanent place to live and is considering a move to Tennessee.

“She’s ruined my life,” Grissom said.
